The New York Yankees are in need of a few different positions for the 2026 MLB trade deadline, with a high-leverage reliever and a new catcher two of their top needs.

Those are their top two needs this summer, but the Yankees might need to consider other additions. Starting pitcher might be something to address, but a different area of the roster could be a real problem this summer.

As ESPN's Jorge Castillo notes, the Yankees' issue with Aaron Judge's injury, as he's still on the injured list and the uncertainty surrounding his return, could force Brian Cashman and the Yankees to swing a deal for a right-handed-hitting outfielder.

Yankees might be forced to trade for RHH outfielder amid Aaron Judge inury

"Catcher and reliever take precedent over an outfielder, but with uncertainty surrounding Aaron Judge's status, the Yankees could opt for some insurance," Castillo writes.

While the Yankees might feel confident in Judge's return and avoid a trade for an outfielder, if there is some lingering uncertainty for Judge by the deadline, the Yankees might feel compelled to acquire an outfielder.

New York adding to their bullpen and upgrading at catcher are priorities for the Yankees, and would be the kind of moves the fan base could get excited about.

But if the Yankees swing a deal for an impact outfielder, it would be hard not to be concerned about Judge's health, as the Yankees likely won't make a trade for such a player if Judge's return from injury is something the team is confident in.

While the Yankees could add a lower-tier outfielder as depth until Judge gets back, if the outfielder the Yankees add at the deadline is a more notable player, there could be some real concern with Judge.

Yankees fans might want to wish for the Yankees to avoid trading for an outfielder this summer, as that would mean Judge is on track to return to the lineup relatively soon.

If there's uncertainty about Judge, the Yankees might be forced to swing a trade for a new outfielder. Such a deal would be a bad sign, as it could mean Judge's return is a bit more off than initially anticipated.
