Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo can be seeing arguing with a female police officer in newly-released footage from his drunk driving arrest in Wisconsin.

The California Post and TMZ both obtained footage from the July 23 arrest in Milwaukee. Romo was arrested and cited for operating while intoxicated (OWI).
Romo can be seen in the footage telling the officer multiple times that he needs to contact his lawyer. He told the officer he was on his way to see his grandparents and he claimed he’d consumed “zero” alcoholic drinks. Romo said he was contacting his attorney after the officer asked him to take a field sobriety test. Romo eventually started recording the incident with his phone.
“I’ll do it,” Romo said about the field sobriety test, “but I’m not allowed to call my lawyer first? Am I allowed to call my lawyer first?
The officer informed Romo he could not call his lawyer in the middle of an OWI investigation.
At another point, Romo asked, “Because I’m coming from a golf course you think I’m drunk?”

The officer detained Romo, a longtime sports broadcaster with CBS since retiring from the NFL in 2017, and said they would conduct the field sobriety test somewhere safer as they were on a highway during the traffic stop.
The officer said later in the video she smelled alcohol from the vehicle and found unopened shooter bottles with Romo’s belongings. Romo eventually did the field sobriety test, but then refused a breathalyzer.
“Oh, no. We’re not doing that. I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that. So, we’re not going to do that,” he said.
Romo was cited for OWI, a first offense, and a Milwaukee County District Attorney spokesperson told the Post that the case was determined to be a “a traffic violation and not a criminal charge.”
