There are a number of the league’s top cornerbacks who are waiting for the dominoes to fall in the market this offseason.
Gonzo is expected to break the record as the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback ever, with his deal seemingly edging closer.
The Cleveland Browns recently handed Denzel Ward a two-year, $62.2m extension, which has made him the highest-paid cornerback in history through the $31.1m annual average value.
It may now just be a matter of time before Gonzalez takes that record as the indications all point towards a deal being announced very soon.

A new deal feels like a matter of time, with Devon Witherspoon and Gonzalez seemingly waiting to see who blinks first before resetting the market with the highest-paid contract.
Gonzalez has recently ventured out into Boston for a meal, where he posed for a snap alongside server David Ledbury, which was shared on Instagram.
Ledbury has a long list of interactions with the stars who visit the Boston restaurant, Strega.
Posing for a photo with a signed menu, Gonzalez wrote, “Highest paid ‘corner’ or bust”.
Captioning the post, Ledbury said, “Going over the final touches on the contract. Five more years.”
Gonzalez will want the title of being the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback following another exceptional year for the Patriots.
The 24-year-old has already spoken about the prospect of a new deal in New England.
What Christian Gonzalez said about a new contract
Clearly, Gonzalez was keen to keep the finer details secret, but the cornerback made no secret that discussions were taking place in the background.
“Everybody knows what Mr. Kraft has done. I have a ton of respect for Mr. Kraft and what he’s done with this franchise,” he said at the Patriots’ training camp.
“It’s just something we don’t want to handle in the media. I want to keep that between my team, my agents, and the front office, and let them deal with that.”
Now that Ward has got his new deal in Cleveland, it is just a waiting game between Witherspoon in Seattle and Gonzalez.
