LeBron James breaks a Shohei Ohtani record

LeBron James’ move to the Philadelphia 76ers is still garnering a lot of attention. The NBA world can’t wait for the start of next season and watch him play for them, and his new jersey has already made history. He surpassed MLB superstar Shohei Othtani’s mark in 2023 as the highest-selling uniform for any player switching teams within 48 hours.

The pitcher and designated hitter set it when he left the Los Angeles Angels for the Los Angeles Dodgers. James announced his next team on Friday, and Fanatics added his jersey to its inventory four days later. His merchandise is currently listed as for preorder.

The total sold has not been announced but Philadelphia and the 22-time All-Star’s die-hard fans made sure they already placed their orders.

James’ announcement came as a surprise to many, as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Golden State were considered the frontrunners. However, he ultimately chose to join Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and the rest of the 76ers.

The superstar forward is entering his 24th season at 41 years old. He may be at the twilight of his career yet he remains one of the best players in the league. James showed last season that he still has a lot left in the tank, leading the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs. He is a four-time champion, four-time Finals MVP, four-time NBA MVP and 21-time All-NBA team member.

Ohtani, on the other hand, is already considered one of the GOATS despite only being 32 years old. He is a two-time World Series champion, four-time MVP and six-time All-MLB first-team member. The Japanese sensation is also a four-time Silver Slugger award winner, two-time home runs leader and the first player to record a 50/50 season.
