Harry Kane remains Bayern’s first-choice striker, and he is expected to sign a new contract at some point this year.
The German champions have strengthened their attacking department this summer by signing Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven.
Bayern Munich retain interest in Benjamin Sesko
The German champions were interested in Sesko when Vincent Kompany first arrived at the club in 2024, but Bayern were unable to sign him at the time as he was too expensive.
Last season, Kane often dropped deeper to contribute creatively as well as score goals, and going forward he could operate even further back, allowing a natural striker to play ahead of him.
With Saibari already signed, Bayern may not need another striker in the current transfer window, but Sesko remains on their shortlist.
The Slovenia international scored 12 goals across all competitions for Manchester United last season and has established himself as a reliable striker under Michael Carrick.
Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that if Sesko struggles to make his mark in the Premier League, Bayern could reignite their interest.
Falk said: “It is TRUE: There is an idea to give Harry Kane a deeper role as he gets older at Bayern Munich. The striker knows he’s not getting faster as the years progress, but everyone can see that he already has an important role at FC Bayern with his passing and playmaking ability. So, he already has in his mind that he could play deeper and leave room for a pure striker ahead of him. This idea was already developing at the club when Vincent Kompany first joined in 2024, which was why Bayern had the idea to bring Benjamin Šeško to Munich. He was too expensive at the time, which is why Manchester United ended up pulling off the deal a year later.
“However, the idea is still there to bring such a striker into the team. Now, Bayern have Ismael Saibari who can cover this role as well. So Bayern will perhaps see if they can make it work already this coming season. So they have to see if they’ll still need a player like Šeško down the line. The Slovenian is still on the list and he’s a player who’s very interesting for FC Bayern. Perhaps, if he’s struggling to make his mark in the Premier League, they could return to this idea. The plan for the future, nonetheless, is to sign another striker who can be a Harry Kane successor but also play in a two-striker system. This is one of Vincent Kompany’s key ideas.”
Benjamin Sesko: Unlikely to leave Man Utd
Sesko joined the Red Devils in a big-money move ahead of the 2025-26 season and finished the campaign strongly under Carrick.
At the moment, there is little chance of Bayern making a move for Sesko, but he remains a player they are monitoring for the future.
Bayern also decided against signing Nicolas Jackson on a permanent deal after he failed to impress during his loan spell from Chelsea.
Saibari is a versatile forward who can play not only as a striker but also across the attacking line. He featured as a striker for Morocco at the World Cup and impressed with his performances.
