Easley’s Langdale claims South Carolina Amateur Championship

Austin Langdale of Easley scored a two-shot victory over defending champion Sam Jackson in the 95th South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Championship played July 23-26 at Quixote Club in Sumter.

Langdale, who was a four-year letterman at Clemson from 2013-2017, shot rounds of 70-66-65-71 to finish at 8-under par 272 and earned an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship that will be played Aug. 10-16 at Merion Golf Club in Armore, Pa. He won the 2011 South Carolina Junior title and added the 2013 Azalea Invitational at the Country Club of Charleston.
Sam Jackson, a former Presbyterian golfer from West Columbia, shot a final-round 68 to finish at 274. Ashton Eubanks of Lexington and Nelson Dickson of Simpsonville tied for third at 279. Lucas Acevedo of Daniel Island, Bennett Scaletta of Belton, Tip Price of Greenville and Luke Nelson of Greer tied for fifth at 281. Jamen Sanders of Goose Creek was part of a four-way tie for ninth at 282.
"Growing up in South Carolina and playing through the South Carolina Junior Golf Association and the South Carolina Golf Association, this championship has always been the pinnacle of amateur golf in our state. Winning the Junior Championship was special, and now having my name on this trophy is just the icing on the cake," Langdale said after the tournament.
Westbrook wins at Wedgefield
Sadie Westbrook of Kiawah Island built a seven-stroke lead in the first round and was able to maintain that advantage to win the Girls 13-19 age group in a South Carolina Junior Golf Association Tournament played July 28-29 at Wedgefield Country Club in Georgetown. Westbrook shot 69-73—142, 2 under par. Claudia Mediate of Myrtle Beach was second at 149. Julia Rose Floyd of Johns Island finished fifth at 157.
Caden Collins of Myrtle Beach won the Boys 13-19 age group, shooting 71-69—140 and scored a one-shot win over Matthew Joseph of Pawleys Island. Hudson McCay of Mount Pleasant was third at 142 and Ry Dangerfield of Charleston finished fourth at 143.
Ralph Mastrangelo Memorial Golf Classic
Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach will hold its 33rd annual golf tournament and second annual Ralph Mastrangelo Golf Classic Sept. 21 at Crooked Oaks on Seabrook Island Club.
