Through seven training camp practices, the elephant in the room has remained. New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who is reportedly still on the trade block, is here today, but he might be gone tomorrow, next week or the next.
It's a complicated situation that has varying layers of consideration.

The fact is that Boutte is entering the final year of his contract, and he will be looking to maximize his opportunities to cash in big in 2027 free agency. That will obviously be hard to do with A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs currently ahead of him on the depth chart.
So given the current situation, Boutte is open to being traded to another team, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
"Boutte noted that dynamic last week, saying he naturally wants it to be his best season, and that's why sources close to Boutte say he would welcome a trade if the right situation presented itself," Reiss wrote in his Sunday notes column.
The line of note in that report is "if the right situation presented itself."
Obviously, the right situation would be one where Boutte would get more opportunities on the field, likely as a starter. It would probably also have to be a situation with a capable enough quarterback that he can connect quickly with on the football field.
Keep in mind that preseason games are right around the corner, and Boutte would have to learn a new playbook while simultaneously working to build a connection with a new quarterback. That goes without mentioning the Patriots' willingness or unwillingness to move him to a team that might be a direct threat in the division or conference.
The longer this goes on, the less likely it feels that the right situation will present itself.
