He was previously part of the squad during the 2022-23 season. Back then, he featured in three competitive matches for Leipzig.

"We have been able to sign a very experienced goalkeeper in Ørjan, one with whom we are already familiar with as both a player and a person. He already proved during his first stint with us that he’s an absolute team player, in addition to being reliable, professional and prepared to take up responsibility," managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said.

Nyland made headlines at the recent World Cup with big saves, especially in their round of 16 victory over Brazil. Norway reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated by England in a 2-1 defeat after extra-time.

He's expected to be a back-up in Leipzig as Belgian Maarten Vandervoordt is set to be the starting goalkeeper for the upcoming season.
