Stark County athletes competing in AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics

The biggest event of the summer is set for some Stark County track and field athletes in grades 3-6. Several area competitors will participate in the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa this week. The competition runs through Saturday.

Those scheduled to compete include:

  • Karsyn Horne (Canton) in the 100, 200 and 400 meters,
  • Christian Harsh (North Canton) in the 100, 200 and long jump,
  • Jordan Harsh (North Canton) in the 800,
  • Micah Chellinksky (North Canton) in the 1,500 and 3,200,
  • Easton Ruby (Massillon) in the 100 and 200,
  • Lauren Pascley (Massillon) in the 100, 200 and long jump,
  • Moriah Papacostas (Perry) in the long jump, 80 hurdles and 400,
  • Laiyah Papacostas (Perry) in the long jump and 400.

Horne, the Harshes, Chellinksky, Ruby and Pascley compete for ATP Elite/Premeire Athletics in Canton. The Papacostases compete for the Ohio Heat Track Club.

Moriah Papacostas is the top-ranked athlete in the country in the 11-year old division for the 80 hurdles.

Horne is ranked in the top five nationally in the 8-yeard old division of the 100 and 200. He's the No. 2 seed in the 200.

Christian Harsh is ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 100 and 200.

Laiyah Papacostas is ranked sixth nationally in the 9-year old division of the long jump.

Jordan Harsh is ranked 15th nationally in the country in the 8-year old division of the 800.
