IndyCar to return to Phoenix Raceway for NASCAR doubleheader in 2027

IndyCar will return to Phoenix Raceway for the second straight year, the track announced Wednesday. IndyCar will race on the 1-mile short oval on March 13, 2027, joining the NASCAR Cup Series for a doubleheader.
IndyCar came back to Phoenix this year after not racing at the track from 2019 to 2025. Like this year, the 2027 race weekend will feature an IndyCar race on Saturday and a NASCAR Cup race on Sunday. Josef Newgarden won at Phoenix Raceway this year after winning the 2018 race as well.

"Both (series) should complement each other,” Newgarden said after winning the race. “If you're a motorsport fan, you're just getting way more value for your weekend to have the top two motorsport championships together on the same weekend. I don't see why we can't do a little more of this. I think it's good for everybody."
The 2027 IndyCar season will begin with the same three tracks – St. Petersburg, Phoenix and Arlington – as 2026. Those races will begin the season with three consecutive weekends, which IndyCar had never done before this year.
IndyCar adjusted its schedule back a week to correspond with NASCAR, which will start its season and marquee race – the Daytona 500 – a week later due to the Super Bowl being a week later next year. This year's Phoenix doubleheader was seen as a success from an attendance and viewership perspective, leading IndyCar to want to return to the track, which NASCAR owns.
