How much does it cost to: Take the cable car up Table Mountain?

A trip up Table Mountain remains one of Cape Town’s – and the world’s – must-do experiences, but it’s worth knowing what it will cost before heading to the lower cable station.

If purchasing tickets online, for a family of four – two adults and two children aged between four and 17 – return tickets currently cost R1 410.
Standard return online ticket prices
Current return fares are:
- Adults: R475 each
- Children (4-17 years): R230 each
- Children under four: Free
For two adults and two children, that works out to:
- Two adults: R950
- Two children: R460
Total: R1 410
Hiking one way?
For those planning to hike either up or down Table Mountain, one-way tickets are also available.
Current one-way fares are:
- Adults: R300
- Children: R165
A family of two adults and two children would therefore pay R930 for one-way travel.
Buying at the ticket office
However, should you wish to chance your arm and show up at the lower cable station, tickets are substantially more expensive.
Current return fares are:
- Adults: R530 each
- Children (4-17 years): R270 each
- Children under four: Free
For two adults and two children, that works out to:
- Two adults: R1 060
- Two children: R540
Total: R1 600
Current one-way fares are:
- Adults: R330
- Children: R180
A family of two adults and two children would therefore pay R1 020 for one-way travel.
Skip the queue
Finally, a ‘Fast Track’ option is also available whereby one can buy one-way or return tickets skip the queue.
Those tickets are R1 200 for a return and R750 for a one-way ticket.
Adults and children pay the same price.
Note
The above rates will be applicable from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.
Tickets for pensioners (over 60 years of age) are R70 one-way or R130 return both online and at the ticket office.
Those wishing to visit Table Mountain are urged to buy tickets from Table Mountain Aerial Cableway’s recognised partner ticket outlets Webtickets, Cape Town Tourism and City Sightseeing South Africa only.
Plan ahead
Visitors are encouraged to book tickets online in advance, particularly during school holidays, long weekends and peak tourism periods when queues can be lengthy.
It’s also worth checking the weather before travelling, as the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway may temporarily suspend operations during strong winds or adverse weather conditions.
