The Philadelphia Phillies added Luis Arraez to the lineup after making a trade with the San Francisco Giants before the deadline. It was a move that gives Philadelphia a consistent bat for the final stretch of the season and the playoffs. In his first three games, Arraez is already proving the front office made the right call.

The 29-year-old second baseman recorded an RBI in the Phillies’ Thursday matchup against the Washington Nationals. After accomplishing that feat, it’s said that Arraez is the first midseason acquisition since Al Oliver in 1984 to record an RBI in his first three games in Philadelphia’s franchise history, according to MLB analyst Ryan M. Spaeder.

“Luis Arraez is the first Phillies midseason acquisition with an RBI in each of his first three games with the team since Al Oliver in Aug. 1984,” Spaeder said.

Arraez has been on fire all season. The eight-year veteran entered Thursday’s contest with a league-high .324 batting average and an impressive .360 OBP while totaling 139 hits, five home runs, and 46 RBIs. He also has 10 stolen bases on the year.

Leading up to the trade deadline, many talking heads and analysts proclaimed that the Phillies needed a left-handed hitter. The front office did just that by acquiring the three-time All-Star in a deal with the Giants. Philadelphia acquired Arraez, along with prospect right-handed pitcher Calbe Kilian, after sending right-handed pitching prospects Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair to San Francisco.

While it’s been an impressive turnaround for the Phillies, a spot in the playoffs is not guaranteed. The club is in a good position, though, as Philadelphia is firmly in the mix for a spot in the Wild Card.
