Mumbai, August 6, 2026: Booking a special bus from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for weddings, tourism, religious trips or private events will now cost more, with the state-run transport undertaking revising its fare structure, terms and booking charges.

The new rates came into effect on August 6, 2026, while the existing 50 per cent concession for educational institutions has been retained.

Revised Booking Charges

According to MSRTC, the revision follows the 13 per cent increase in ordinary bus fares implemented from July 18 and the introduction of ticket fare rounding in multiples of Rs 5 across all services.

Under the revised tariff, charter bookings will attract new per-kilometre charges, minimum distance criteria, cancellation fees, additional time charges, security deposits and separate conditions for electric buses.

A minimum charge of 300 km will apply for most buses, while 9-metre and 12-metre electric buses will have a minimum billing of 325 km. Additional charges for tolls, GST, parking, extra drivers, the Accident Assistance Fund and a cleaning surcharge will also apply wherever applicable.

Educational Concession Retained

MSRTC has, however, continued the 50 per cent fare concession for educational institutions undertaking study tours. As per the state government's policy, schools and colleges will pay only half the applicable charter fare, with the remaining amount reimbursed to MSRTC by the Maharashtra government.

New Tariff Structure

Under the revised tariff, a standard bus will cost Rs 75 per km for round trips and Rs 115 per km for one-way bookings, while AC Shivshahi buses will be charged at Rs 120 per km and Rs 180 per km, respectively. Rajmata Jijau buses will cost Rs 90 and Rs 135 per km, while separate tariffs will apply to 12-metre electric buses.
