In a clip shared by Christopher Carter on his “Locked on Steelers” podcast, Metcalf told the media he noticed the mental shift in Wilson during the opening week of camp.
"Just his confidence, the way he attacks the field every day. He's smiling. He's bouncing around. He's attacking every route," Metcalf observed. "We would always tell him like, 'Rome, you're in the NFL. you made it here for a reason. So, just go out there and just continue to show why you should be here.'"

That self-assurance has translated into dynamic practice production. Capitalizing on his elite horizontal speed, Wilson has consistently beaten coverage across the middle on quick slants and shallow crossers.
Carter said he wasn’t surprised to see Wilson as the third wide receiver on the initial depth chart; he feels he has earned it in camp. It’s clear to Carter that Wilson has newfound confidence on the field.
“I think that’s a big thing, just knowing and trusting yourself and knowing that you belong. And practicing and playing like you belong. All of those are positive factors that Roman Wilson needs. Roman Wilson looked like he’d been acclimated to this offense even though this is his first year with Mike McCarthy.”
His growing chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers shone during consecutive padded practices, where Wilson secured back-to-back game-winning touchdowns during high-stakes two-minute drills with the first-team offense.
If he sustains this momentum into the preseason, Wilson provides Pittsburgh with a lethal tertiary threat while opposing defenses focus their primary coverage schemes on Metcalf and Pittman.
