The Indianapolis Colts believe that a healthy offense can wreak havoc in the AFC, just as it did for more than two months before quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. But the defense will have to be sharper in 2026. Unfortunately, injuries are also hindering that side of the ball. Rookie linebacker CJ Allen missed Thursday’s practice due to a hamstring issue, per James Boyd of The Athletic. It is presently unclear when he will return.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen understands that these type of setbacks are par for the course at training camp, but he obviously wants an NFL newcomer to gain as many reps as possible before the regular season begins. Allen could also be a valuable contributor for this defense.

The No. 53 overall selection in the NFL Draft recorded three and a half sacks, 88 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Georgia Bulldogs last season. Players who can disrupt the run and pass are mighty valuable, and Indy is hoping this one can smoothly transition to an NFL defense. Injuries could obviously interfere with that objective, however.

Despite enjoying an overall positive day that featured an impressive showing by Daniel Jones and a Jonathan Taylor contract extension, the Colts will now have to monitor CJ Allen in the coming days. The All-American LB will rest up and try to rejoin his teammates on the practice field very soon.
