Dombivli hospital assault: Shinde Sena corporator released day after getting bail from HC

Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, arrested last month for allegedly assaulting doctors and staff at a civic hospital in Maharashtra’s Dombivli, was released from jail on Saturday, NDTV reported.
Mhatre, who belongs to the Shiv Sena faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, was released from the Adharwadi jail in Kalyan.
The case relates to the corporator and his associates allegedly assaulting doctors at the hospital on July 6 after the family of a pregnant woman was asked to transfer her to another medical centre because there were no beds available in the neonatal intensive care unit, which the newborn was expected to require.
The Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to Mhatre, but directed him to stay outside Maharashtra till the chargesheet is filed in the case, PTI reported. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad said that the corporator could be granted bail as the investigation is being carried out at a fast pace, and he had spent a considerable amount of time behind bars.
Mhatre spent over three weeks in jail in two separate stints. He was first arrested on July 8, and was granted bail by a sessions court on July 14.
