Marty Smith fixes squeaky coffee shop door with WD-40 live on SEC Network

Marty Smith is a man of action.
While recording an episode of his show Marty & McGee for SEC Network, Smith was calling in live from a coffee shop at the Jersey Shore. Throughout the show, customers came and went with their coffees through a door right behind Smith, and it was extremely squeaky.

Rather than letting the squeaks continue to disturb the audio of both the show and the coffee shop’s mood, Smith stepped up. One of the show’s producers sent Smith a bottle of WD-40 via DoorDash or some other delivery service, and Smith took it upon himself to get to work and silence the squeak.
Smith’s work on the door was accompanied by some great play-by-play analysis from his cohost Ryan McGee.
“Marty is literally, some poor woman is having to wait because Marty is spraying down the hinges in this door,” McGee said. “He’s testing it, still squeaking. This is going to wear him out. He has just sprayed the top hinge. I’m assuming we have three hinges, and with WD-40 you’ve got to work it in there. He’s going to spray the whole contraption at the top of the door; now he’s down at the bottom.”
“You’re welcome, America. We did it!” Smith said victoriously once the squeak had been taken care of, before adding, “These people are looking at me… They’re going to probably call the law.”

Watching a professional broadcaster power through a broadcast under less-than-ideal circumstances is always an opportunity to appreciate their dedication to the craft. Remember the time Michael Buffer got sprayed with sprinklers and still made it through Chelsea’s starting lineup? That’s a true pro right there.
But Smith’s bit of live production here takes that professionalism to another level. After recognizing a problem, he was ready, willing, and able to do the dirty work. In the end, both television viewers and coffee shop patrons owe him a debt of gratitude.
WD-40 should sponsor the show.
