With the Pittsburgh Steelers' preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers less than a week away, a promising fan-favorite rookie is battling an injury he picked up at training camp.
On Friday, Steelers rookie running back Eli Heidenreich sat out his second straight practice with a hamstring injury.

While the injury isn't thought to be serious and Heidenreich is considered day-to-day, the setback couldn't have come at a worse time. Heidenreich needs all the practice reps he can get, as he was listed as the co-RB5 on the Steelers' initial 2026 depth chart, behind Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, Kaleb Johnson and Lew Nichols.
Hamstring injuries are no joke and can linger longer than expected, making things especially tricky if a player returns too quickly. Less than a week out from the Steelers' preseason game against the Packers, you have to wonder if the team will err on the side of caution and hold Heidenreich out of the matchup.
