Joaquin Niemann comments on what Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia were like as playing partners in New York

Joaquin Niemann played alongside Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia during the third round at LIV Golf New York on Saturday.

Niemann leads Harold Varner III by two strokes heading into the final round in New York, while Westwood is a further two shots back.
Meanwhile, Garcia is eight adrift of the Chilean with just 18 holes left to play.
Joaquin Niemann posted a round of one-under par 70 on day three at LIV Golf New York while Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia shot 69 and 72 respectively.
The 27-year-old from Santiago in Chile won five times on LIV Golf last season, but he only has one victory to his name so far in 2026.

He didn’t play in The Masters, missed the cut at The Open and finished in a tie for 18th at the PGA Championship, so it’s been an interesting season for him in general.

Niemann would put a seriously positive spin on his 2026 season if he manages to win LIV New York on Sunday.
The Chilean would leapfrog Lucas Herbert into third place in the season-long standings if he triumphs at Trump Bedminster.
He spoke after his round about the current state of his game, and what it was like to play alongside Westwood and Garcia on day three in New York.
“Yeah, I mean, it was a pretty good last 17 holes,“ he said.

“But yeah, hit pretty good shots. Pretty happy with a few putts that I rolled that went in and a few of them that couldn’t go in. Probably gave away a few shots there. But super happy with the round.
“I enjoyed playing with Lee and Sergio as well, so yeah, pretty excited for tomorrow.“
Joaquin Niemann reveals final-round strategy
Niemann was asked whether his strategy will change for the final round in New York due to the fact that he has a two-stroke lead.
“No, I feel like everybody needs to go out and play good tomorrow,“ he replied.
“It’s not like it’s just me playing.
“Everybody needs to go out there, probably they’re going to try to chase me, and I’m going to try to play the best I can to just run away.
“Obviously there’s a lot of golf to play, a lot of shots to hit, and I’m just excited to be where I am right now and have a chance to win tomorrow.“
Joaquin Niemann is absolutely right. He cannot afford to coast on Sunday in New York, because someone will overtake him if he does.
The Chilean needs to play with the mindset that he doesn’t have a lead, and shoot the lowest score he possibly can. If he performs to the best of his ability, he will almost certainly win at Trump Bedminster.
