Vikings' J.J. McCarthy has a strong day at training camp

· Yahoo Sports

The talk of the town around the NFL has been the quarterback battle brewing in Minnesota between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray. McCarthy struggled mightily last year, both in performance and in staying healthy, and the Vikings decided to add Murray to push McCarthy in camp. While reports have gone back and forth on McCarthy's performance, he did have a strong day in camp recently.

ESPN's Kevin Seifert has been reporting on Minnesota's camp so far, and spoke highly of McCarthy's day on Friday, August 7th:

"Quarterback J.J. McCarthy had one of his better days of camp as the competition with Kyler Murray continued. McCarthy hit wide receiver Dontae Fleming on a deep out, a route McCarthy has excelled at this summer, and also threw three touchdowns in a four-play red zone sequence."

This is going to happen for every quarterback in camp. There are going to be days when he is trending up and days when he is trending down. For McCarthy, it is imperative that he start to stack days where he trends up, because from the sounds of it, he might be behind the eight ball so far.
