The popular Prime Video series Mirzapur has yielded a screen adaptation. The Hindi film brings back the show’s favourite characters alongside new faces. Characters who perished are back on the screen (except Vikrant Massey).
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh (who also helmed the web series), Mirzapur The Movie sees Akhandanand (Pankaj Tripathi) locked in a power struggle with his wayward son Munna (Duvyenndu), his wife Beena (Rasika Dugal) and his challenger Guddu (Ali Fazal).
Ravi Kishan is among the additions to the film, playing Akhandanand’s rival. Jitendra Kumar plays Guddu’s confidante.
Also in the film are Shweta Tripathi as Golu, Shriya Pilgaonkar as Sweety, Harshita Gaur as Dimpy alongside Kulbhushan Kharbhanda, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Shubhrajyoti Barat, Sushant Singh and Abhishek Banerjee.
The trailer promises the cocktail of brutal action, small-town swagger and punchline-heavy dialogue that made the series popular. The day you sit on the throne, you forge an unshakeable bond with death, Akhandanand says. Written by Puneet Krishna and scored by John Stewart Eduri, the film is scheduled to be released on September 4 in cinemas.
