Daily Snow Report: fine and warm returns as winter loosens its grip

· The South African

Friday, 14 August’s Daily Snow Report shows this week’s cold snap finally loosening its grip, with fine, warm conditions returning across most of the country.

SAWS warns of damaging interior winds over the Hantam and Karoo Hoogland municipalities in the Northern Cape, a Yellow Level 2 warning that could damage temporary structures and reduce visibility due to blowing dust.

REMEMBER |  Eastern Cape’s warning finally eases to an advisory

In the Northern Cape, extremely high fire danger conditions are flagged over Hantam and Nama-Khoi.

In the Western Cape, the same warning covers Cederberg, Matzikama and Laingsburg.

Frost and fine, warm weather settle in for the weekend

According to SAWS, Gauteng sees frost in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, but cool in the north.

Mpumalanga starts with morning fog patches over the Escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to cold.

Limpopo stays cloudy to partly cloudy and cool.

The North West sees partly cloudy and cold to cool conditions.

The Free State has morning frost in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool.

The Northern Cape starts with morning fog over the extreme western interior, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm.

The Western Cape sees cloudy conditions with morning fog over the northwest, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm.

The Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal lead the return to fine weather

The Eastern Cape is in for a fine, warm day across both halves, though the eastern half stays cool over the northern high ground.

KwaZulu-Natal starts with morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool, with isolated showers and rain in the extreme northeast.

KwaZulu-Natal’s UVB sunburn index also sits at “very high,” so it’s worth taking precautions against prolonged sun exposure even with the cooler temperatures.

After a week of warnings and headlines, I think today’s forecast is the first one that actually feels like a breather.
