The President swapped serious politics for a little fun during his visit to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) on Friday, 14 August, joining students for another “Clock It” moment.
And judging by the reaction, he knew exactly what he was doing.
A video shared by the South African government shows Ramaphosa smiling as he interacts with students and addresses his recent viral videos.
The government captioned the moment simply: “#ClockIt”.
Ramaphosa gets in on the fun
Ramaphosa was at UKZN’s Westville campus in Durban to deliver a public lecture ahead of the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit.
The programme itself was serious.
Ramaphosa spoke about regional integration, industrialisation and how Southern African countries can build stronger economies by working together.
But away from the podium, students managed to bring out a different side of the President.
The interaction quickly turned into a light-hearted moment around the viral “Clock It” trend.
Ramaphosa played along as those around him laughed and cheered.

‘Clock It, Mr President’
The moment adds to a growing collection of clips showing Ramaphosa getting involved in the trend.
“Clock It” has taken off on South African social media, with the phrase and accompanying gesture used to point out something worth noticing.
And it appears the President has officially got the memo.
GovernmentZA shared the latest clip on its official Facebook account, while the moment also circulated elsewhere on social media.
This time, the setting was particularly fitting.
Ramaphosa was surrounded by university students – exactly the kind of crowd likely to keep him up to speed on what is trending online.
Back to business
The fun came during a busy few days for Ramaphosa in Durban.
His Friday lecture formed part of South Africa’s hosting of the 46th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.
On Saturday, 15 August, Ramaphosa is scheduled to chair a virtual high-level meeting of the Global Leaders Network.
The meeting will focus on the health and well-being of mothers and future generations.
The SADC programme then continues through the weekend before Ramaphosa chairs the main summit on Monday.
But for a few moments at UKZN, regional politics could wait.
Mr President had something else to clock.
