Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has received widespread criticism following last season’s disappointing campaign. The Super Bowl LIX champions failed to defend their title and were eliminated by the 49ers in a wild-card playoff game.

Hurts recorded 3,224 yards and 25 TDs passing with six interceptions and 32 sacks. The quarterback was criticized for his failure to run complex offenses and questionable leadership qualities. On Wednesday, ex-Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer joined this discussion.

He stated that while Hurts is a good player, he would not trust him during clutch moments on the gridiron.

“A quarterback in this league, your team is down 14 points with four minutes to go,” Poyer said on ‘NFL on CBS.’ “Is Jalen Hurts somebody that you trust to bring your team back in the game?

“Their offense is good. Their offense is extremely good. Obviously, you got Saquon Barkley. You’ve got one of the best offensive lines in the game. Really good outside receivers. They got a really good defense. So Jalen doesn’t have to do a whole lot. But down 14 in a game, can Jalen bring his team back in the game?

“There’s gonna be moments in the season when you’re down 14, you’re gonna be down 10 with 2 minutes to go, 3 minutes to go. You’re gonna have to make some throws. In those moments, can Jalen make those throws? … Me? I don’t know. He’s not somebody that I would trust down 14 to bring my team back in the game. But, again, I’m not gonna sit here and hate on Jalen, because all he’s done is win.”

Jalen Hurts will be entering his seventh year with the Eagles this upcoming season. They drafted the quarterback with the No. 53 pick in 2020.

Jalen Hurts dodges question about A.J. Brown

Last season, Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown reportedly had a fallout. After a dysfunctional campaign, the wide receiver was traded to the Patriots in June, where he will play alongside a new quarterback, Drake Maye.

On Wednesday, Hurts and Brown faced each other once again during the Patriots and Eagles’ joint practice. While speaking with the media, Hurts was asked what advice he would give Drake Maye to utilize A.J. Brown’s maximum potential.

The Eagles quarterback dodged the question with a vague response.

“I think Drake has had a lot of success already, so I don’t know what my advice would do,” Hurts said. “I just think he needs to continue the progression that he’s on. He has accomplished so many great things in short time, and I expect more great things to come for him.”

The Eagles face the Patriots in a preseason friendly on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled at 7 p.m. ET.
