Cleveland Guardians Critical Road Trip off to Perfect Start

It was abundantly clear at the beginning of last week that if the Cleveland Guardians wanted to get back to the playoffs, they'd need to take advantage of their upcoming stretch of games and series.

The Guardians started off this stretch of games on a high note, taking two of three games from the San Francisco Giants, and then hit the road.

Their first stop was in Denver to face the Colorado Rockies, and the road trip was off to a perfect start as Cleveland swept its National League counterpart in three largely lopsided games.

Between the solid pitching and a lineup that built on its leads, the Guardians’ road trip is truly off to a perfect start. As a team, Cleveland’s pitching staff only gave up six runs, while the offense tallied 20 runs. 

The Guardians 33 hits were the most in a road series going back to the Cleveland contest in Boston during the 2024 season.

The stats don't lie, and it looks like this Guardians team is starting to click at a perfect time.

It's important to remember that Denver is not an easy place for professionals in any sport to play, and the Guardians were still able to overcome that to pull off a series sweep.

"This is a tough place to play. It's a tough place to win," said manager Stephen Vogt after the game.

"The guys were banged up. The altitude does that. I mean, we got a lot of guys hurting right now, so the medical staff's got their hands full, and he will be ready to go."

Now, after the series victory, the message from Cleveland’s skipper is simply to keep going and not take the foot off the gas.

"We have to keep working, keep our heads down. We got a game tomorrow, and we'll enjoy this one for a while, have a happy flight, but it's back to work tomorrow," Vogt said postgame.

Next up for the Guardians is a three-game set in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels.

Even though the Angels haven’t been one of MLB’s best teams record-wise this year, the Guardians can't let their guard down.

Cleveland can't afford to follow up such a convincing series win, such as the one against the Rockies, with a disappointing week against the Angels.
