After Central cancels season, Mount Vernon football finds new opponent

Mount Vernon football was slated to play Central in its Week 9 clash on Oct. 23. Due to Central’s canceled season, the Mountaineers were forced to find a replacement.

The Mountaineers will now be going on the road to face Summit Christian Academy in Lee’s Summit. Mount Vernon head coach and athletic director Tom Cox confirmed the change to the News-Leader.
The Eagles finished with a 5-7 record playing Class 2 action last season.
Mount Vernon was forced to change its schedule due to Central’s canceled season. The Bulldogs will not be playing a varsity schedule for the second consecutive year. Central's lack of numbers is the main reason for the school not fielding a varsity squad.
Parkview changed its schedule to face Lighthouse Christian Academy in Week 2. Hillcrest does not have an opponent for Week 1 because of Central’s canceled season, too.
