The notice, issued on behalf of Engineer Tanveer Usmani of the Govandi Citizens Welfare Forum, alleges that the civic body has failed to issue ward-wise directions for sanitation, water supply, medical aid, lighting and traffic-related arrangements despite the festival being less than 48 hours away.
Rs 2 Crore Allocation Cited
The representation claims that the BMC Standing Committee had in November 2019 sanctioned Rs 2 crore annually for Eid-e-Milad procession arrangements.
The allocation was intended for temporary toilets, sanitation drives, drinking water and tankers, medical aid posts, ambulances, street lighting and barricading. The notice states that the decision has neither been revoked nor modified.
It further alleges disparity in civic spending on major festivals, citing reported expenditure of Rs 54.47 crore on Ganeshotsav in 2024-25. The notice argues that equal civic support should be provided for Eid-e-Milad arrangements as well.
Deadline Set For Civic Arrangements
The BMC administration, Mayor and Municipal Commissioner have been asked to issue a public announcement and ward-wise directives, deploy sanitation teams, mobile toilets, water tankers, medical posts, lighting and barricades, and operationalise the Rs 2 crore allocation by 5 pm on August 25.
