The Philadelphia Eagles haven't released their initial 53-man roster, so there's no official depth chart. That said, we're left with perception and the eyeball test.
We've long known that DeVonta Smith is the unquestioned WR1. Dontayvion Wicks and rookie Makai Lemon round out the trio at the top of the depth chart. What Philadelphia has been trying to iron out is how they stack the back half of their receiver room. Might they have hinted that Marquise Brown has settled into the fourth spot?

The regular season approaches. Nick Sirianni hasn't stood at a podium and settled the debate, but he may not have needed to. Sometimes NFL teams tell you what they think through actions rather than words.
Over the past two weeks, Philadelphia's actions have painted an increasingly clear picture of where Brown stands in the pecking order. Brown began receiving more opportunities with the first-team offense, and he capitalized on them. For much of the summer, his roster outlook felt uncertain. He arrived with experience and pedigree, but his training camp began quietly. Younger receivers generated buzz. At one point, Brown looked less like a lock and more like another participant in a crowded competition.
The perception surrounding Marquise Brown may be changing.
The first sign came on the practice field during joint practices. Then came more telling developments. After appearing in the preseason opener, Brown did not play against the New England Patriots. Several other players fighting for jobs were asked to continue their auditions. Brown watched. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it is often how NFL teams treat players whose roster spots feel secure.
Coaches generally want additional evaluation opportunities for players still battling to make the team. They are less interested in exposing established veterans to unnecessary risk. The decision felt significant because of the timing. Brown's strongest practices arrived shortly before the Eagles elected to hold him out.
The Eagles may already know where Marquise Brown fits
Philadelphia's top three receiver spots appear settled. DeVonta Smith remains one of the league's most reliable route runners. Makai Lemon's draft status and long-term importance make him a major part of the organization's plans. Wicks was hand-picked by Sean Mannion. The battle behind them appears less certain.
Elijah Moore has delivered encouraging moments. Darius Cooper has taken a step forward. Brown, however, offers something the others can't fully match: a lengthy NFL resume and proven production against starting defenses.
That matters for a team with championship aspirations. The Eagles don't necessarily need their fourth receiver to become a star. Their fourth receiver probably isn't getting the ball much, but Philadelphia does need someone they can trust if injuries strike or opportunities arise. As training camp has unfolded, Brown has increasingly looked like that player.
The roster has not been finalized, and surprises still happen during cutdown season. Philadelphia's recent decisions, however, suggest the organization may already have concluded. The competition for receiver spots remains active. The race for WR4 may not be one of those spots.
