BATON ROUGE – The last time an offensive lineman was bestowed the beloved No. 18 jersey for LSU football, the team went on to win the national championship.

LSU announced Friday morning that Moore has been award the distinguished jersey number for the Tigers for Lane Kiffin's first season as head coach. Last year, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier wore No. 18.
The tradition of No. 18 was born more than two decades ago. Then quarterback Matt Mauck led LSU to the 2003 national title, the school's first in nearly 50 years at the time. Since Mauck wore it, the jersey goes to the player or players that embody what it is be a great teammate and possess all the intangibles that the coaching staff looks for to help lead the team.
Moore is in his second season in Baton Rouge, having transferred from Virginia Tech before last season. Earlier this offseason, Kiffin called Moore a vital piece to his first roster with the Tigers and getting the 6-2, 300-pounder to come back for huge for the offense.
He's a multi-year starter at two different schools (Virginia Tech and LSU) and has played in 40 games, one of the higher numbers on LSU's roster this year.
