AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 2 Texas volleyball fell to No. 1 Nebraska in straight sets Sunday afternoon at the Players Era Volleyball Showcase at T-Mobile Arena.

Texas (2-2) entered the top-two matchup without outside hitter Abby Vander Wal, who suffered a knee injury in the Longhorns' previous match against No. 18 TCU. Vander Wal is expected to miss the remainder of the season but will be further evaluated Monday.
Ryan Niblett headlines experienced Texas special teams unitThe Longhorns jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening set behind back-to-back blocks from Henley Anderson and Taylor Harvey. Texas extended its lead to 8-5 before Nebraska responded with a 10-0 run to take control of the set. The Cornhuskers carried that momentum through the remainder of the match.
Cari Spears led Texas with a match-high 12 kills, while Torey Stafford added eight kills and seven digs. Anderson recorded six kills and tied for the team lead with three blocks. Rella Binney led the Longhorns with 26 assists and eight digs.
Texas will look to bounce back in its home opener against No. 20 USC on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge. First serve from Gregory Gym is set for 8 p.m. CT.
