A Delhi court, while granting bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain, said the Anti-Corruption Bureau had arrested him in an arbitrary and hurried manner in the case related to alleged irregularities in the tendering process for sewage treatment plant projects in the national capital. Jain had been arrested on August 18 along with former Delhi Jal Board Chief Executive Officer Udit Prakash Rai and four others.

The court noted that there was an unexplained and extraordinary delay of 27 months between the first information report being registered and Jain being arrested.
The judge also said that there were no phone call records or text messages that could, at this stage, connect him to the alleged kickbacks and hawala transactions involving the other accused persons. It is unclear if the other accused persons were also granted bail. Read on.
