The Dodgers offense was anemic until the ninth inning. They were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, 1-for-26 when counting last night’s game.
However, when they needed a clutch hit, Hernandez delivered, continuing his hot hand.

He was one of many slumping hitters, but as he turns things around, the offense has some more life.
The Dodgers were without Shohei Ohtani, who sat out the game to rest after struggling at the plate and with his health.
LA trailed the entire game, going down 2-0 after the first three innings. The Dodgers managed to score a run until the ninth inning, coming on a passed ball and was not batted in.
They had eight walks and six hits on the night, totaling one more baserunner than the Cardinals.
Baserunners and pressure are not a problem for the Dodgers, but cashing in runs remains an issue, no matter if they won this game.
Still, this moment could be a catalyst for a team that has been searching long and hard for leverage hitting.
Tarik Skubal’s battle
Sep 3, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal (29) walks to the dugout after being removed from the game against the St. Louis Cardinals during the sixth inning at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesSkubal was not nearly at his best, going 5.2 innings and allowing 10 hits, two runs, a walk, and only six strikeouts.
His stuff lacked the usual bite, as evidenced by his fastball velocity being down and some of the break being below average.
Still, he allowed just two runs and kept the team in the game. The bullpen got back on track as well, with 3.1 scoreless innings and just two hits allowed from all of the relievers.
