West York football rolls past Red Lion for second straight win

But Ferber's stats aren't his main crux. Miller knows that will come easy to his quarterback. What he considers the real unspoken quality that ties the Bulldogs together has been Ferber's leadership. Miller has seen Ferber grow from a freshman finding his feet into the anchor that has kept West York plowing through its schedule over the past two years.
And it was the junior's leadership that helped West York win its second straight game, a 34-12 win over Red Lion at Horn Field on Thursday night.
"You could see him manage the offense out there, protecting the football really well and distributing the ball," Miller said. "That's all we ask of him. His leadership at practice, his leadership in the weight room, he's really just a special young man and we're blessed to have him."
Ferber and the Bulldogs didn't waste time Thursday. After Za'mir Harris capped their opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run, West York's defense jumped in to action. It forced a three-and-out on Red Lion's opening drive, and Julius Fuentes-Bream scooped up a blocked punt to run back another score.
The quarterback got his own share of the scoring. Ferber connected with Fuentes-Bream on a 25-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and ran in a score from 15 yards out in the fourth quarter.
But penalties hampered the Bulldogs and kept the Lions in the hunt before halftime. In the span of six minutes during the second quarter, Red Lion's Julian Credone turned a 21-point deficit into a one-score difference. First, Credone struck on an 11-yard pass from Luke Martin. One drive later, he hauled in another score after a West York penalty set the Lions up at the nine-yard line.
"We were saying at halftime that that wasn't us in the first half and that we knew we could do better than that," Ferber said. "We showed it in the second half, with that first offensive play, that 80-yard run. That's what our O-linemen do, and we knew that we could do that."
Running back Aidan Wagner set the tone after halftime. On West York's first possession after the break, the junior broke out for an 84-yard touchdown run. Ferber followed suit with a 15-yard run of his own 12 minutes later to set the final score in stone.
"We responded, and that's what I'm proud of the guys for," Miller said. "We had a big game last week and short week so we were beat up a little bit. Such a great win. Any win's a great win."
