“Global GOAT”: Caitlin Clark’s Fever Teammates Rally Behind Fever Superstar After Spectacular FIBA WC Debut

On Friday, Caitlin Clark made her senior debut as a Team USA athlete in a major international tournament. Making a great first impression, Clark put up a 14-point, 11-assist performance in the United States’ first win in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
After the USA’s 94-61 rout of China, Clark posted photos from the game on Instagram. Two of her Fever teammates showed their support in the comments section, with Makayla Timpson labeling her a “Global GOAT” and Raven Johnson affectionately calling her “Mamacita.”

Though Clark came off the bench in this game, she ended up leading Team USA in minutes (a total of 25:19, more than any player on the starting lineup), assists, and efficiency. Clark’s 14-point output also tied the team high put up by Paige Bueckers and Rhyne Howard, who were both part of the reserve unit along with the Fever star.
China tried to keep things close in the first quarter, but the United States’ offense went to a different level with CC taking on point guard duties. Pushing the pace and finding her open teammates in halfcourt sets, Clark made it easy for the likes of Rhyne Howard and her Fever running mate Aliyah Boston to get their buckets.
Team USA will next face Italy on Sunday and Czechia on Monday. If the United States secures first place in Group D, they get an outright spot in the quarterfinals, affording themselves an extra day of rest while other teams slug it out in the qualification phase.

In the post-game media session, Caitlin Clark dished out praise for the elite talents that she’s playing with on Team USA.
“Our guards are incredible, and our post players too. Anybody I pass the ball to, it feels like they’re never gonna miss a shot.”
Clark added that when she checks into the games during this World Cup stint, she’s looking to “facilitate and play fast.”
