RailRiders fall to Red Wings 3-1, fall one back of one seed

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had the opportunity to take the lead in the second-half standings Monday afternoon, but fell 3-1 to the Rochester Red Wings.

The RailRiders struck first in the second after Kenedy Corona was hit by a pitch and stole second before being brought home on a Jared Kelenic single to take their only lead of the game.
The Red Wings scored three runs in three different innings, starting in the fourth after a pitch hit Cayden Wallace. Carson Bailey singled, and Andrew Pinckney grounded into a force out at second, putting runners on the corners with one out.
Leandro Pineda then hit a ground-rule double to score Wallace and move Bailey to third, but Railriders pitcher Alexander Cornielle struck out two of the next three batters.
The Red Wings struck again in the sixth with a two-out rally started by a single by Pineda, then a Maxwell Romero walk followed by a go-ahead single by Sam Petersen to give them a 2-1 lead.
Cornielle would finish the night going six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out seven, but walking four batters. This comes after Cornielle was named IL Pitcher of the Month for August.
The Red Wings would add more as Peterson brought in Pickney with an RBI triple to add some insurance.
The Railriders' offense struggled, mustering up just four hits and striking out three times, with the Red Wings using seven pitchers.
