According to ESPN Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor, McCarthy is sticking to his repetitive messaging: “Mike McCarthy says Joey Porter Jr.’s participation will again be a ‘ramp-up’ type day at Wednesday’s practice.” Instead of confirming full team reps or committing to a specific workload for Week 1, McCarthy has consistently relied on the ambiguous “ramp-up” label to describe Porter’s daily activities without offering any concrete information about his physical condition.

This cautious approach mirrors McCarthy’s earlier remarks when Porter first returned to the practice field with his teammates. When asked about the cornerback’s progress, McCarthy offered broad statements that revealed little: “He’s doing a good job; he’s going through the ramp-up process. We’re going to do a little bit more with him today. This is the first time he’s been able to put the pads on. We’re staying true to that process of being smart and trying not to go too fast.”
