Michael Irvin and Stephen A. Smith made a hilarious bet on ESPN while discussing the Dallas Cowboys’ NFL opening loss.
The Dallas Cowboys lost against their rivals, the New York Giants, to start their 2026-27 NFL campaign. The defence was exposed at crucial points in the game, which played a huge part.

Stephen A. Smith took to social media immediately after to make fun of the Cowboys. And soon after, he was on ESPN’s First Take with none other than the legendary Michael Irvin.
What happened next was entertaining, to say the least, and it gave fans something to look forward to as well.

Irvin is as big a believer in his Cowboys as Stephen A. is a hater of the franchise. However, even the staunchest fan might be hard-pressed to believe Dallas will be a contender this season.
But Irvin is putting his money where his mouth is, as he made clear to Smith. The Hall of Famer took up a bet on live television that he would cut his hair if the Cowboys didn’t make a deep postseason run.
“I can tell you this, I am still confident in what the Cowboys have and they got to get it together,” Irvin said. “Now, I will put my locs on the line, and I love my locs.”
“When you say you gonna put it on the line, what does that mean?” Smith asked. “Are you willing to place a bet on national television? What’s that bet?”
