The New York Mets faced the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night at Citi Field. It also marked the official return of Pete Alonso as a member of the Orioles.

Before the game, the New York fans showed their love for Alonso with a special gesture, per SNY Mets.

They chanted Alonso’s name, “Pete Alonso!” “Pete Alonso!”

That chant reverberated throughout the stadium, a clear sign that love was not lost.

In December, Alonso signed a five-year, $166 million deal with the Orioles after seven seasons in New York. He is currently batting .269 with 151 hits, 35 home runs, 100 RBIs, and 89 runs scored.

Former Mets GM Sandy Alderson believes not re-signing Alonso hurt the organization in the long run.

In those seven seasons in New York, Alonso made quite the impact. Beginning with his rookie season. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year. Alonso batted .269 with 53 home runs and 120 RBIs.

That same year, Alonso won the Home Run Derby during the All-Star Week. From there, Alonso was named to five National League All-Star teams. He also surpassed Darryl Strawberry to become the franchise’s all-time leader in home runs.

During that stretch, the Mets made it to the postseason in 2022 and 2024. In 2022, they lost to the San Diego Padres in the National League Wild Card series. Two years later, New York made it all the way to the NLCS before losing to the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Now, the Mets are in last place in the National League East Division at 69-80.
