“The jury’s still out”: Paul Scholes questions Senne Lammens’ place in Man United team

Manchester United have not had a very good start to the season.
Poor start
In spite of seemingly favourable fixtures on paper, they have only managed to rack up four points from four matches in the league.
Numerous players have so far been unable to replicate their form of last season, and this was evident in a disheartening 0-1 defeat to Manchester City in the derby on Sunday.
One player who performed so well last season, Senne Lammens, has been questioned this season by some fans and sections of the media.
The Belgian shot-stopper has conceded seven goals in four matches and has not been as convincing as last season.
Paul Scholes’ comments
Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes cast doubt on Lammens’ performances at the club so far.
Discussing Lammens’ quality, he queried, “what team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper? Lammens might be that; I don’t know; I think the jury’s probably still out on that, and then you build from the back four, like Arsenal. It’s the way Arsenal started three or four years ago.”
Scholes explained, “you think of Liverpool’s team with Alisson, Raya at Arsenal, Man United with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar. They’ve all got brilliant, brilliant goalkeepers.”
The former United man did not directly say Lammens was not the answer but implied United and Carrick still need substantial time to find out.
He continued, “you start from the back, of course you do. Whether Michael’s (Carrick) just got to be patient and wait for that, I don’t know.”
There is no doubt the goalkeeping department has improved since Lammens took over from Andre Onana, but there have been growing concerns over how many goals the keeper has conceded in recent times.
The Red Devils take on Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow night in the Carabao Cup.
