Lionel Messi’s 100th goal for Inter Miami has sparked plenty of reaction online after the Argentine produced a rare header against Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup.

Messi opened the scoring at Nu Stadium with a close-range header, giving Inter Miami a 1-0 lead in the final.
The milestone came in Messi’s 114th appearance for the club, making it the fastest he has reached 100 goals for any team he has represented.
Inter Miami won the final after a second goal from Casemiro in the 81st minute. A 2-0 comfortable win for David Beckham’s co-owned side gives the team a major boost.
However, the talking point of the game still remains how Messi scored the header.

Messi is hardly known for scoring with his head, which made the finish even more surprising for fans watching the Campeones Cup.
One supporter compared the moment to an unlikely piece of Australian rules football, writing: “Messi scoring a header feels like the footy equivalent of the full-back kicking a torp from the boundary and then acting like it was meant to happen.”
Another was simply amazed by the milestone, posting: “a header from him at this age is actually amazing!”
His height also became a talking point, with one fan joking: “a 5’7 guy beating defenders to a header, lmao.”
There was also a more confident assessment of Messi’s ability in the air: “Messi’s head game is solid”
Another supporter went even further, writing: “He’s limitless. He’s the god of football.”
Not everyone was impressed by the occasion, though, with one fan dismissing the competition: “Friendly match btw 😂😂”
Another reaction was far more critical of MLS, asking: “this is the worst league in the world,how does Messi score a header wtff😂”
Messi’s goal was his 100th for Inter Miami across all competitions, with his tally now including 76 MLS goals, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup and one at the FIFA Club World Cup.
He had already helped Miami win the 2023 Leagues Cup, 2024 Supporters’ Shield and 2025 MLS Cup.
The latest milestone came against Cruz Azul, the same side Messi scored against on his Inter Miami debut in 2023, adding another memorable moment to his time in South Florida.
