Disagreements Arise Over Stephanie White’s MVP Argument for Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell
The Fever are on their way to their best regular-season finish in franchise history. They are currently 27-14 and playoff-bound for the third straight year. Their success is largely anchored in the offensive production of Mitchell and Clark, who lead the squad in scoring and assists, respectively.
Ahead of the Fever’s game on Friday against the Toronto Tempo, White made a case for why her players deserve to be recognized as MVPs.
“When you look at it, it’s all scoring numbers certainly for Kelsey, but her efficiency with which she’s doing it,” White said. “Caitlin, her scoring and assists have been off the charts, and I think both of them are legitimate candidates for MVP.”
Several people believe that this year’s MVP award belonged to Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
“Stop lying, A’ja got this wrapped up,” one X user said.
“Unfortunately for her, A’ja Wilson exists,” another chimed in.
Another user who disagreed with White used a GIF to tell her to stop it.
“2 ‘MVP candidates’ but still the 5th seed,” one person commented.
“Literally went on to explain why neither are mvp candidates this year,” another commented, followed by the crying laughing emoji.
“Stephanie White is the most pathetic, spineless, pandering sellout [expletive] in the WNBA. I despise her and the Fever, and not having to head about them will be the one positive of the W season ending soon,” another user bluntly posted.
During Friday’s contest against the Tempo, Mitchell scored 33 points to break the league’s single-season scoring record, with the previous record being 1,021 points set by the Aces’ Wilson in 2024.
Currently, the Fever star is at 1,034 points with three games left in her team’s regular-season schedule. Mitchell has also scored rather efficiently. Before their game against Toronto, she had converted 51.3 percent of her field-goal attempts. This included a league-leading 45.5 percent on 3-pointers.
In terms of scoring averages, Mitchell and Wilson are neck-and-neck. The Aces center is leading the league with 26.1 per game. Meanwhile, Mitchell entered Friday’s game with 25.0.
Not far behind is Clark, who is averaging 22.5 points per game, the third-highest average in the league. Aside from her scoring, she has also helped keep her teammates involved.
Clark entered Friday’s contest with 8.4 assists per game, tied with Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas. However, the Fever star dropped 14 dimes against the Tempo, which should significantly raise her assist-per-game stat.
