Kaizer Chiefs drop points on the road against Golden Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs remain unbeaten in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership, but Amakhosi will feel they dropped two points after being held to a 0-0 draw by Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Kaizer Chiefs dominated the opening 45 minutes and created enough opportunities to take control of the contest, but were unable to find the breakthrough.
The biggest chance came in the 33rd minute when Kaizer Chiefs were awarded a penalty after Faiz Abrahams was brought down inside the box.
Lebohang Maboe stepped up, but his well-struck spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Golden Arrows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa, who dived to his right to keep the scores level.
Kaizer Chiefs dominate first half
Amakhosi made a fast start and used their pace to repeatedly threaten the Golden Arrows defence.
Pule Mmodi delivered a dangerous cross for Mfundo Vilakazi in the fourth minute, while Vilakazi then produced some impressive skill on the right before Reeve Frosler sent another threatening delivery into the box.
A clever short-corner routine created another opening for Maboe, but his eighth-minute effort from distance missed the target.
At the other end, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner made an impressive debut in place of the injured Brandon Petersen.
Leaner reacted quickly to deny Junior Dion from close range after Philani Khumalo’s cross, ensuring Kaizer Chiefs were not punished for one of the few openings Golden Arrows created in the first half.
Kaizer Chiefs continued to control possession and territory, but Golden Arrows survived the pressure to reach half-time without conceding.
Regained momentum
The second half was a different contest as Golden Arrows grew into the match and made it increasingly difficult for the Glamour Boys to play with the same freedom.
Kaizer Chiefs regained some momentum late on and came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 79th minute.
Substitute Asanele Velebayi found Vilakazi inside the box, with the youngster unleashing a powerful shot that beat Mbanjwa but crashed against the crossbar.
Vilakazi had another effort blocked in the 86th minute, but the decisive goal never arrived.
The draw means Kaizer Chiefs have now recorded four stalemates in their opening seven league matches.
Amakhosi sit fourth on the Betway Premiership table with 13 points, seven behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, but with a game in hand.
Kaizer Chiefs will now have the FIFA international break to regroup before returning to league action against Stellenbosch on 17 October, with the focus likely to be on turning dominant performances into victories.
