Prescott’s place in thelegacy debate was already a talking point before Sunday, and breaking Romo’s record only made the comparison louder. Some fans celebrated the milestone while still making clear that postseason success remains the standard they care about most.

That tension has followed Prescott for much of his career. His regular-season production now includes the franchise touchdown-pass record, but the Cowboys have not reached an NFC Championship Game during his tenure.
Sunday still belonged to Prescott. He did not creep past Romo with a quiet milestone throw in a loss. He broke the record in a four-touchdown performance against a division rival while helping Dallas earn its first victory of the season.
The larger legacy argument will keep going, especially in Dallas. The record book, however, has already changed: Prescott is now the Cowboys’ career leader in touchdown passes.
