The Detroit Pistons are at an impasse with their All-NBA man Jalen Duren. Duren is a restricted free agent, and so far the two parties have been unable to agree upon a contract.
Since negotiations began, it has been widely reported that Duren is looking for a max contract. However, the Pistons have made it clear they don’t wish to give him that.
As the negotiations rage on, the franchise’s latest offer to Duren has been revealed. While he hasn’t accepted it yet, NBA fans think that could be a big mistake.

Duren may have been an All-Star last season, but his performance in the postseason left a lot to be desired. Many think the Pistons’ refusal to give him the max comes from that.
But while Duren is an excellent player, very few defensive big men can command max contracts in the modern NBA. And fans think the Pistons’ reported current $200 million offer should be enough for him.
“He’s gonna pull a Dennis Schroeder cuz he’s never seeing that type of money again,” one fan claimed. “Detroit really out here offering 200M and this man acting like he’s got a better offer in his back pocket,” another pointed out.
“I understand betting on yourself but who is offering him more than that at this point?” a third fan asked. “He is not going to get any more money. He should accept this,” a fourth said.
“$40M is an overpay. The Pistons are bidding against themselves. Trade JD to SacTown and be done with it,” claimed a fifth fan online.
Duren is sure to be considering taking this latest deal. It makes a lot of sense for him, and it is certainly better than risking injury with one year of playing on the qualifying offer.
