DStv subscribers in South Africa get a major new channel

DStv subscribers are getting a revamped channel offering, with MultiChoice introducing a new channel that brings local entertainment, movies, educational programming and live PSL football together in one place.
The new Wethu+ channel replaces Mzansi Wethu on DStv channel 163 and forms part of a wider overhaul of DStv’s packages in South Africa.

For subscribers, one of the biggest changes is the range of content brought together on the new channel.
What can DStv subscribers watch on Wethu+?
Wethu+ combines programming from Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Magic Music, while also introducing international blockbuster movies, dubbed telenovelas and local reality shows.
MultiChoice said the channel was designed for the whole family, with its line-up covering everything from drama and telenovelas to children’s and educational programming.
Prime-time viewing includes shows such as Umhlaba Wezifiso S1 and Shaka iLembe S2.
It will also screen new episodes of Homecoming S2, My Brother’s Keeper S2 and The River S6.
The channel will additionally feature daily news updates and a dedicated international movie slot.
Live PSL football added to the mix
Perhaps the biggest draw for sports fans is that Wethu+ will also carry live football.
As reported by MyBroadband, MultiChoice said viewers will be able to watch two live PSL matches every weekend during the football season on channel 163.
This puts live domestic football alongside movies, drama and family programming on the same channel.
“Football forms an important part of the Wethu+ viewing experience,” MultiChoice said.
There is something for younger viewers tooThe revamped offering also has a focus on younger viewers.
Children’s and educational programming will feature during the daytime, while Woza Matrics will provide Matric learners with revision and exam-preparation content.
MultiChoice said this programming is intended to support learning while keeping younger viewers engaged.
The new channel is available to subscribers on the DStv Starter package and above.
That means the new offering is not restricted to DStv’s higher-end packages, with Wethu+ forming part of the entry-level Starter package and the packages above it.
The launch is part of MultiChoice’s broader overhaul of its DStv packages in South Africa, changing the mix of channels and content available to subscribers.
