New Wichita basketball league welcomes players of all abilities

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A new basketball league is launching in Wichita.

The Miracle League of Wichita announced on Tuesday that it opened sign-ups for youth, teen, adult and wheelchair division teams.
The Miracle League of Wichita offers athletes with disabilities opportunities to play different sports. In addition to basketball, it has bowling, kickball, swimming and baseball leagues.
Prairie Fire Marathon in need of volunteersThe league will meet weekly and have one practice day and four game days. Teams will learn the fundamentals of basketball, and gameplay will be modified to make it accessible to people with a range of abilities.
The modifications include playing with a smaller ball and on a smaller court. Goals will also be lowered. Each game will consist of four six-minute quarters.
Anyone interested in joining the league can find more details on the City of Wichita website. The program is also looking for buddies who will partner with players and help them during games.
