Pat Freiermuth has plenty of reasons to get fired up for a trip to Cleveland.
The Steelers tight end has been part of the AFC North rivalry since entering the NFL in 2021, but one incident from his rookie season gave him a particularly personal reason to remember Browns fans.
During Week 8 of the 2021 regular season, Freiermuth scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take the lead. He recalled that some Browns fans reacted by throwing beer on his mother.
“Cleveland fans threw beer at my mother in my rookie year after I scored a touchdown,” Freiermuth told reporters. “I’m not too big a fan of them, but it’s all good.”

Freiermuth said his mom actually enjoyed the experience, joking that it was “all for the love of the game.” Still, the incident apparently made enough of an impression that she no longer attends Steelers road games against the Browns.
While this happened years ago, it remains one of Freiermuth’s more memorable experiences with the AFC North rivalry. Now, he’ll have another opportunity to make an impact against Cleveland — hopefully without any more beer making its way toward his family.
