UND WR Caleb Goodloe out for the season with ACL injury

Sep. 28—GRAND FORKS — One of UND's top offensive weapons will miss the remainder of the season, Fighting Hawks head coach Eric Schmidt confirmed Monday.

UND wide receiver Caleb Goodloe suffered an ACL injury in the second half of UND's 42-35 win over Indiana State last Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
"Tough deal for him," Schmidt said. "I've got a lot of respect and just admiration for him and the type of work ethic and type of teammate he's been, just adding to our culture. He's made a lot of plays here. He's been a little banged up since the LIU game, but I just feel for him and his family."
Goodloe, a junior and first-year transfer from Bowling Green, started his UND career off with 118 receiving yards against Long Island University.
Against LIU, Goodloe suffered an ankle injury and was hampered by the setback for a few weeks. He was able to score UND's lone touchdown two weeks ago against Nebraska.
Against Indiana State, Goodloe had six catches for 62 yards. After catching a short pass in the fourth quarter, Goodloe turned to go upfield and was tackled for a 3-yard gain. He remained down on the field and UND's medical staff attended to Goodloe.
With Goodloe sidelined, Schmidt said UND will need to see a continued development of Cameron Weir, a first-year Washington State transfer who caught two touchdown passes against Indiana State.
"He's a guy that we felt really confident about, and his role has expanded here," Schmidt said. "As we get Haydn (Stay) back, there's some thigs we think we can do with some of our other tight ends, too. That could fill some of the void.
"Korey Tai, Sam Strandell — those guys, too. I think we have more options there than we've had in the past, and I think you saw Jimmie Maxson play early in the game the other day. You also saw some of the freshmen, too. Delvin (Cook) played early on, so we'll put together some packages and thing like that where we feel are advantageous for our guys and their skill sets."
UND was able to receive good injury news on linemen Liam Becher and Ayden Teeter. Becher and Teeter were injured against Indiana State.
"We had a couple of lineman get rolled up on, but I think both of those guys right now are day-to-day," Schmidt said. "We'll see where those guys are here by the end of the week, but it won't be anything that's super long-term or anything like that."
Schmidt also said Stay and safety Avery Dixon are probable, with tight ends Hunter Kallstrom and Aidan Behymer likely remaining out.
UND, 4-1 and ranked No. 5 in the latest FCS Top 25, hosts Murray State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Alerus Center.
