Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured skull suffered during the team’s preseason finale, the Wild announced on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old defenseman was struck in the head by a shot from Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen during the second period of Friday’s game. The puck appeared to hit Faber near his ear on the left side of his helmet. After falling to the ice, he was able to stand up on his own power and skate to the Minnesota bench.

Faber did not miss his next shift and played the remainder of the period. He was eventually removed from the game in the third period and was placed on injured reserve on Monday.
The Wild did not announce a timetable for Faber’s return to the ice.
“He just had a serious surgery and an injury, so we’re just gonna update you guys when the time’s right,” Wild general manager Bill Guerin told reporters. “But he’s doing well. He’s doing really well, which is good news. And we’ll just follow the doctors’ leads.”
When asked why Faber wasn't pulled immediately, Guerin said that Faber "seemed OK" and that "as things progressed, we had to pull him."
Faber, who plays on Minnesota's top defense pairing with Quinn Hughes, averaged 24:41 of ice time last season and scored a career high 15 goals and 51 points in 80 games. He added four goals and 10 points over 11 playoff games.
The Wild begin their 2026-27 schedule on Thursday against the Nashville Predators before their Saturday home opener against the Boston Bruins.
