East Central Railway launches special drive to ensure clean drinking water

East Central Railway (ECR) has launched a special campaign to check drinking water quality and ensure the availability of clean and safe water for passengers and railway employees.

Under the drive, the railway administration is carrying out intensive inspections and maintenance of water tanks, water coolers, taps, water filters, drinking water distribution points and pipelines at railway stations and residential colonies. Health inspectors are conducting residual chlorine tests, bacterial culture tests and other chemical tests to ensure that the water meets prescribed standards. ECR

In the Danapur division, health inspectors conducted 180 drinking water quality tests at stations, residential colonies and offices. These included 177 residual chlorine tests, two bacterial culture tests and one chemical test.

In the Dhanbad division, 956 residual chlorine tests, 23 bacterial culture tests and one chemical test were conducted. Similarly, the Sonpur division carried out 319 residual chlorine tests, 21 bacterial culture tests and six chemical tests. ECR

Water samples are also being collected in the Samastipur and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya divisions for physical, chemical and bacteriological examination, along with residual chlorine testing.

The railway administration is also regularly inspecting water supply pipelines and piping systems. Any deficiencies detected during inspections are being rectified immediately.

ECR said the special campaign will continue across all five divisions until drinking water points at all railway stations, residential colonies and offices have been inspected and necessary corrective measures taken.

Health inspectors will continue regular checks and testing to ensure that passengers and railway employees are provided clean drinking water conforming to prescribed standards. ECR said it remains committed to improving drinking water facilities while giving priority to the health and convenience of passengers and employees.
